Project · Shotcrete shoring
JCL Inc. — Shotcrete Shoring, Calgary
Temporary shotcrete shoring on a residential basement excavation in Calgary, AB. Welded wire mesh pinned to the cut, wet-mix shotcrete sprayed onto the mesh, and a finished wall protecting the neighbouring fence line.
The job
JCL Inc. was digging a residential basement right up to a fenced property line. The west face of the excavation ran along the neighbour's fence, so that face needed temporary shoring while the basement goes in.
We shored it with shotcrete: welded wire mesh pinned to the cut, wet-mix shotcrete sprayed onto the mesh, and a finished wall between the dig and the fence line. Shotcrete shoring is one-sided, with no forms or bracing on the neighbour's side, which is why it suits tight residential lots.

1. Mesh pinned to the cut
Once the excavator had opened up the west face, our crew fixed welded wire mesh to the soil cut and pinned it in place along the fence line, ready for shotcrete.

2. Wet-mix shotcrete onto the mesh
With the mesh on, we sprayed wet-mix shotcrete onto it and built up the face along the cut. The base of the neighbour's fence was covered with cardboard to keep overspray off.
