Novus Construction — Shotcrete Retaining Walls, Regina

Shotcrete retaining walls on a shored excavation in Regina, SK, completed for Novus Construction in October 2026. Novus first worked with us on Ironwood Court in Edmonton. When their Regina job needed walls, we went. Rebar set and inspected, line and grade set with piano wire, and a clean, even finished face.

The job

Novus Construction needed one-sided shotcrete retaining walls along a shored excavation in Regina. We’re based in Calgary and most of our work is in Alberta, but we travel for builders we already work with, and Novus is one of them: we delivered their structural wall at Ironwood Court in Edmonton in August.

The approach was the same as in Edmonton. Steel placed and inspected first, piano wire set to fix the line and grade, then shotcrete built up against the shoring with no forms to set or strip. What Novus got was a straight wall with a clean, even face along the whole run.

1. Rebar set and inspected

Membrane on the shoring first, then the steel: rebar mats tied along the wall, pipe sleeves set through it, and the footing steel at the base. All of it was placed and inspected before any line work started. Nothing gets shot until the steel is right.

2. Line and grade with piano wire

Before shooting, piano wires were set along the walls to fix the line, the grade and the finished face. On a long, one-sided wall, that is what keeps it straight from one end to the other.

3. Shotcrete, built up in lifts

Shotcrete went on from the bottom up, in lifts, against the membrane. Each lift was built out to the line before the next one went on, with the steel above kept clean for the next pass.
